On Thursday 16th June 2016 Selby High School took a team of 13 students to take part in the annual Inspirations event at Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington. This is an opportunity for students in all Key stages to compete against other schools from the whole Yorkshire region. We had 2 teams involved in the Solar Boat Challenge and 5 year 10 students who took part in the Key stage 4 Product Design competition.
The DT department have taken part in the event for a number of years and have had a lot of success over those years. 2016 was no exception as we won 3 prizes! One of our teams from the Solar Boat Challenge won in the Free shape boat; this category was for students who had designed and made their own boats from scratch, instead of using standard components that were given within a kit form by the Rotary Club. Although our second Solar Boat Challenge team suffered a number of technical difficulties, their efforts were rewarded with all students from both teams being awarded the Andrew Rogerson Inspirations Solar Boat Challenge Trophy.
We also experienced more success in the Product Design Category with Charlotte Pennington winning the Key Stage 4 prize. All students did the department and the school proud and we are already looking forward to the next Inspirations Event and hopefully further success.
