A Christmas Carol

The year 11 students have been treated this afternoon to a professional theatre performance of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, performed by the FRED travelling theatre company.

It was an all-singing, all-dancing adaptation of the classic novel which the students thoroughly enjoyed watching. The cast were only made up of six actors but their ability to adapt to the different Dickens’ characters was astounding. Scrooge was phenomenal and every bit as ‘unjolly’ as we know him to be, whilst around him, there is carol-singing, dancing and hand-wringing by the other actors. To the point where even the grumpiest of Scrooges could be convinced that family, Christmas and the act of giving are much more important than money and riches. The costumes were simple but very effective and the three ghosts were particularly impressive. The lovely cast interacted with the students and we even had one of our own pupils playing Tiny Tim!

This insight into Dickens' A Christmas Carol will certainly help the year 11 students as they will be studying this classic novel after the October half term in their English lessons. A big thank you to the English department for arranging this fantastic performance. Much fun was had by all and we were definitely in the Christmas spirit by the end of it (even if it is mid-October)!
