Year 8 Self-Esteem Project

On Friday 20th March Selby High School hosted the Dove Body Confidence Workshop, which is part of the Dove Self-Esteem Project.

All our Year 8 students took part in the workshop which is designed to help young people build self-esteem and raise body confidence.  The session also helps students avoid the idea of valuing themselves - and others, on the basis of appearance, through developing respect for their own individuality and the diversity they see around them, allowing them to gain skills and confidence to be the best version of themselves and achieve their full potential.

The workshops provided students with the perfect opportunity to explore and develop their ideas from the Healthy Lifestyle topic, which they have studied in lessons as part of their PSHEE curriculum.  It also links in to building the resilience students have to tackle the challenges they face and which can be an important factor for young people as they move through their secondary education.

The team from the Dove project were immensely impressed with the level of participation and engagement of our students, their discussion and questions showed real thought, consideration and maturity to the topic and the issues it may raise for them, both now and in the future.  This created a really positive learning environment for our students who all commented both on the day and through their written feedback, how much they had enjoyed the experience and crucially how much they had learnt from it.

A huge thank you to our workshop facilitators on the day and to the Dove Project Team for providing our students with this excellent opportunity.  We look forward to the possibility of welcoming them back to our school in the future.
