Year 5 Specialism Days

Over the last two weeks, from 9th- 19thJune, four hundred and fifty Year 5 students from sixteen primary schools have been transported into Selby High School to spend the day working in the school’s specialism areas of science and the arts.

The Year 5 students had the opportunity to experience the specialist equipment and resources. They also had the support and guidance of our students who led by example and enthusiastically participated and gave advice wherever possible. In science the students had great fun creating a candle and a bath bomb to take home before two different arts workshops in the afternoon.

Highlights included rapping, drama activities led by our own students and competing against our students on the dancemats. Three Year 7 students very successfully led dance workshops for their Bronze Young Person’s Arts Awards with Selby Abbey students who proved to be outstanding, they produced original and creative choreography based on the earth’s elements as seen in the photos above.
