Success for Selby High’s Science Ambassadors

This year Selby High School students took part in the very first York Schools' Science Quiz, run by the Ogden trust at St Peter’s school in York. Two teams of four year 11 science ambassadors represented the school; Ellie Dethridge, Laura Hague, Ellie Rafton, Eleanor Morton, Kieran Doyle, Hannah Berzins, Bethany Jardine and Erin Harpham in a competition open for year 11 and year 12 students. The students were up against a number of schools from in and around the York area including; Huntington School, Archbishop Holgate School, St Peter’s School and Cannon Lee School. The ambassadors were expected to compete in a twelve round quiz focussing on a number of physics, biology and chemistry topics. Both teams competed extremely well providing excellent answers to a number of very difficult questions and the students were able to lift the top year 11 team trophy for the whole event.

This was a superb achievement for the students considering this is the first time we have entered the competition. Both teams had a fantastic night and we hope to build on our success next year where we will be competing to retain the trophy.
