Great SHS Bake Off 2016

The Bake Off 2016 has been another huge success. After a record number of entries, it was decided that there would be heats to choose the finalists, which were to be the technical challenge and handing in their design proposals for the signature bake and the showstopper.

The Technical Challenge - Students had to make their own batch of scones – there were some great entries and students really showed great enthusiasm for the task! Scones ranged from plain and traditional fruit to chocolate chip and orange and cranberry. These were then judged for taste, texture and appearance – no easy feat for a great judging team!

The finalists were decided and these were: Holly Pownall, Isobel Almond, Grace Hampshire, Erin Bradley, Hannah Stockdale, Josh Bowden, Charlotte Megilley and Evie Page.

On 22nd March 2016 we held the finals of the Selby High School Bake Off. Students were off timetable for the whole day and completed their signature bake – a biscuit designed for a charity and their showstopper – a cake representing their favourite subject. It was a great day with lots of enthusiasm and dedication shown by all finalists. An excellent selection of biscuits and cakes were produced and then it was left to our resident judges Mrs Carter-Mills and Mr Sinclair to decide who the overall winner was.

After a tough and tense judging looking at the appearance, taste and texture of all the cakes and biscuits, a winner was decided. The competition was extremely close across all our finalists and they had a thoroughly enjoyable day. Well done to our overall winner Erin Bradley 7 G7 who went away with a prize of a cake making and piping set, seasonal biscuit cutters, a range of equipment and a baking set to make cookie dough cupcakes.

Our top three were:

1st – Erin Bradley

2nd – Isobel Almond

3rd – Hannah Stockdale

Well done to all that entered and took part – we look forward to continuing the Selby High School Bake Off next year!
