GCSE Results 2019

There has been lots to celebrate today, as Selby High School students collected their examination results after another very successful year.  This year almost all the GCSEs being studied are the new more challenging 9-1 courses; the full range of vocational subjects on offer at Selby High have also been updated with more challenging content.  Our students more than rose to the challenge of these new qualifications, with youngsters from all different starting points performing well, and many subjects achieving results well above national expectations.  More students than ever before have achieved grade 9s, and over 20 students achieved 6 or more grade 7s and above.

Principal Nick Hinchliffe said, “I’m delighted for all our students, and their teachers, after all the hard work that they have put into their studies.  This morning Selby High School students are enjoying the much deserved success that follows all that hard work.  It’s also great to see the school improve in all the headline measures, including the number of students achieving 4 and above, and 5 above in the core subjects of English and Maths.”

Science has had a particularly good year, in the double award and in the individual subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics:  74% of students gained two science qualifications at grade 4 and above and 20 grade 9s were achieved.  At 76% 4 and above, Maths also had a fantastic year.  Other GCSE subjects which have performed very well include Geography, History, Computer Science, CIDA and Business Studies.  Lots of our vocational subjects have also performed exceptionally well, highlighting the breadth and depth of our curriculum.  Textiles, Engineering and Food Technology in particularly have performed well above national expectations.
