HEAD STUDENT

Responsibilities:

  • Be the face of, and lead, the Student Champions in School
  • Be visible in School – all students should know who you are
  • Deliver presentations to students & parents/carers
  • Attend/speak at Open Evening, Governors Awards and other School events as necessary
  • Raise awareness of important issues in School
  • Take part in decision-making, alongside the Student Council, & attend meetings as required
  • Support the Tolerance Pledge and be a driving force behind the school ‘No bystanders’ and ‘Anti-bullying’ approach.
  • Challenge students who show disregard for School rules & expectations
  • Show unremitting support for the School ethos & vision
  • Help take the lead on charitable events such as selling poppies & collecting non-uniform money
  • Take part in press releases
  • Work closely, in partnership, with the other successful candidate(s) for Head student
  • Set your own goals to make your own special mark on the School
  • Make a difference!

 

Application process:

  • Application letter (no more than 500 words) addressed to the Principal.
  • Successful applicants will need to prepare a short speech to deliver in Year group assemblies.
  • Every student in school will get a vote on which candidate they would like to become Head Student.
  • Successful candidates announced & badges awarded – Final Assembly in the Summer.

HOUSE CAPTAIN/VICE HOUSE CAPTAIN

  • Able to manage & lead other people

  • Willing to give up own time for School events

Responsibilities:

  • To support the House Leader with school events & activities

  • Help manage a team of Year 9 & 10 prefects

  • To be a positive role model within the House

  • Promote positive behaviour, immaculate uniform and exemplary attendance and punctuality

  • To take the lead on and assist with organising House events such as charity events, Sports Day, Open Evenings etc.

  • Present to peers during PD time, assemblies and other designated periods

  • To be innovative and forward thinking with ideas that can be used in school

  • Wear the House Captain badge with pride

  • Be responsible for motivating and organising students for assigned House activities

  • Application forms available to current Year 10 Prefects – deadline EASTER.

  • Applications to be addressed to Mr Hawksworth (House Leader).

  • Successful applicants will be announced & badges awarded – Final Assembly in the Summer.

SPORT CAPTAIN

The position of Sport Captain is highly regarded within the school. You should be passionate about sport and have represented the school competing and attend sports clubs that are run within school. The role of the sports captain is to lead, support, inspire and represent the school in sport whilst demonstrating all the school values. The sports captains will act as role models for the whole school.

 

The applicant's behaviour also contributes to their application.

  • Able to manage, encourage and persuade other people by organising sport teams.

  • A good role model in PE lessons and around school.

  • A role model for you respective House

  • Excellent record of attendance, punctuality & behaviour

  • Independent, but also a good team player - you have to work with other Sport Captains from other Houses.

 

Responsibilities:

  • To be a role model to others in the school in regards to sporting etiquette, motivation, inspiration, organisation and inclusion in the enjoyment of sport.

  • To help organise and take a lead in activities, competitions and clubs in school when required. Such as Inter House Sports & Sports Day by organising younger peers into teams.

  • To attend sporting events in school.

  • Regular duties at the Sportshall during break and lunchtime.

  • To attend meetings with the PE Department when needed.

  • To take part in school events such as open evenings.

  • To offer advice, support and encouragement to younger pupils.

  • Liaising with the specific PE Departments staff member linked to each House

 

To conclude, whilst sporting prowess is important, applicants are not selected only on this, but how they can contribute to the role as a sports leader and captain, organising teams, approaching and liaising with younger peers, and contributing to PE as a whole.

 

Application process:

Application letter (no more than 500 words) handed in to the PE Department. This could include:

 

  • Why do you want to apply for the role.

  • What Sporting experience you have, both in and out of school.

  • How can you contribute to sporting success for your respective House

  • How have you represented School throughout your time at SHS.

  • Acknowledge the importance of PE within the school setting.

PREFECT

Desirable qualities:

  • Reliable & trustworthy

  • Always in full uniform, worn smartly

  • Excellent conduct in school

  • Good record of attendance & punctuality

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude to learning

  • Willing to give up own time to volunteer help with school events

  • Ability to resist peer pressure

  • Approachable

  • Independent, but a good team player

 

Responsibilities:

  • To support your House Captain, Vice House Captain & the rest of the prefect team

  • To be a visible role model that younger students can aspire to

  • Promote positive behaviour, immaculate uniform and exemplary attendance and punctuality

  • Assist with key events in school such as charity events, Open Evenings, car parking, Year 6 induction day etc.

  • Act as a student guide

  • Meet & greet school guests as required

  • Present to peers during PD time, assemblies and other designated periods

  • Wear the Prefect badge with pride & show support for the School

  • Be responsible for motivating and organising students to take part in House activities
