An Inspector Calls

On Friday 6th May we took 48 students from Y7, Y8 and Y11 to see An Inspector Calls at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford. The play explored J.B Priestley’s social commentary on the wide and discomforting differences in the classes and the way we define our own moral compass. The students were all thoroughly engaged in the performance and enjoyed the way the stage had been used to illustrate society’s hierarchy. A particularly brilliant moment was when the crockery and house of the Birling’s collapsed, demonstrating their fall from power and it left some of the most powerful and influential characters scrabbling around on the floor – a stark reminder that we should all be kind to one another. A key theme uttered by the famous inspector and one that we hope we all take from the play: ‘We are responsible for each other’. It was a fantastic evening. Thanks to all of the students that accompanied us.
