Amelia Marson awarded KS4 prize at The Big Bang, Yorkshire & Humber finals

On Thursday 27th June three year 11 and two year 9 Design and Technology students from Selby High School travelled to The Yorkshire Air Museum, to attend the Big Bang, Yorkshire and Humber finals. The event is organised by NYBEP and gives students a chance to showcase their Design and Technology projects and aims to recognise and reward young people’s achievements in all areas of technology.

We selected students to attend by the quality of their controlled assessment work and their commitment towards the subject. The students selected were: Della Heptinstall Year 11 Textiles (Cushion design), Sam Cole Year 11 Product Design (Design influenced Docking station), Cameron Farley Year 9 Product Design (Hobby Kit), Tom Black Year 9 Product Design (Hobby Kit) and Amelia Marson Year 11 Textiles (Punk influenced dress) Product Design (Rocking horse).

Students were interviewed by a number of judges and conducted themselves in a professional and mature manner and we then awaited the final judgements.

A great day was rounded off when it was announced that Amelia Marson had been awarded the Key stage 4 prize for Product Design, for her Rocking Horse and will now go onto the National final, to compete against all other regional finalists later in the year

Although no other Selby High School students picked up an award, they were commended by a number of judges on the quality of their work and their mature behaviour throughout the day.
