Young Coaches Academy Conference

Seven budding young coaches embarked upon the North Yorkshire Sport Coaches Academy Workshop to develop their sports coaching potential.  The conference at Fulford High School, brought together the best young sports leaders from all seven districts covered by North Yorkshire to offer them specialist sports coaching sessions.  Pupils from various schools and colleges were invited to take part in this county wide conference.  The sports represented there included, rugby union, football, tennis, netball, panathlon, cricket and hockey.  Each young leader from Selby chose a sport in which to develop their coaching and leading abilities.  The pupils were also fortunate to listen to an inspiring speech by Paralympian Craig McCann, hearing how important future coaches are to inspiring future sporting greats.

The conference provided the pupils with the chance to work with professional coaches from the various sports on offer and learn from their experience and expertise.  After lunch the young leaders were then able to put their newly honed skills into action when they delivered sports sessions to local primary school children who came into the school.  This proved to a valuable and eye opening experience for a lot of our young leaders.

The conference was sponsored by Fitbit which helped provide some excellent incentives for our potential young coaching stars.  The professional coach from each sport had to nominate the person within their group that stood out as having the most potential and shining brightest throughout the whole day.  We are proud to announce that James Murphy was the recipient of the award within his tennis group.  He is now the proud owner of a brand new Fitbit to help him continue with his sporting endeavours.  We are very pleased with the potential shown by the students and look forward to them contributing more to youth sport throughout the years.
