Sliding in style!

Two groups of Year 11 students have taken advantage of a fantastic opportunity to learn how to snowboard at Xscape, Castleford. The groups participated in the lessons as part of the successful Year 11 Activity Afternoons that have been firmly established as a rewarding end to a hard week at school.

The students each took seven lessons with instructors from Snozone learning the basics of controlling themselves on each edge of the board, progressing then to turning and finally working towards linking their turns on the main slope.  The opportunity for these lessons came through Snowsport England and their “GO SKI GO BOARD” initiative to get more people on the slopes for a fraction of the normal cost.  The students thoroughly enjoyed the sessions with many looking forward to joining in on future school trips to Snozone at Xscape and some even wanting to buy their own equipment and take off to the Alps!

The instructors at Snozone were very impressed with the students’ attitude towards learning; although some progressed at different levels they were all commended on their positive, determined approach to the sessions. Who knows, we might have more snowboard medal success at the next Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018!
