Miss Smith raises over £1000 for Candlelighters

Miss Gail Smith, Assistant Subject Leader for PE, Lead teacher for Gifted & Talented and Asssistant Teaching & Learning coordinator ran the Great North run in a bid to raise cash for Candlelighters.

Candlelighters is a charity formed and run by parents of children who have or have had cancer, ex-patients and the medical staff who treat them. Based at Leeds General Infirmary in Yorkshire, Candlelighters provides essential services and support to children with cancer and their families.

Miss Smith chose this charity, as her friend's 3 year son Edward was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia one year ago

She said. "I just wanted to say a massive thank you to those of you who helped us raise over £1000. It was hard work in the wind and rain but we managed to get round in two and a half hours. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone who fancies dead legs and blisters!"
