Year 7 students develop app

On the morning of the 8th December 2014 the more able cohort of Year 7 students completed an App Development Challenge morning in the Hemingway IT Suite. The morning was designed to stretch and challenge students who achieved a 5b or above in English and Maths at Key Stage 2, giving them the opportunity to try something different from the normal curriculum.

Students were challenged to design an App for Selby Teenagers aged 11-16 to entertain them during the festive holidays. Students worked in pairs and could base their apps around Christmas, or any other religious/non-religious festival, and include any content which would appeal to the audience. The creativity shown by the students was varied, with apps including advent calendars, countdown clocks, image galleries and Christmas quizzes.

Mr Hemingway and Mr Harland, the ICT Technicians, judged the top 3 Apps, with winners as follows;

First Place: Jasmine Brown P9 & Kate Hinken G1

Second Place: Rowan Foster H3 & Lucy Ward G2

Third Place: Alfred Golding P6 & Daniel Golding G2
