Record Breaking GCSE Results

Selby High School Sets More New Records

The percentage for students achieving five or more A*-C GCSE grades (including English and mathematics) has broken through the 70 per cent barrier, for the first time in the school’s illustrious history!!

71 per cent of students achieved the Government’s bench mark of at least 5 A*-C grades including English and mathematics, with an unprecedented number securing top grades. Furthermore, 86% of students secured five or more A*-C grades. These new records represent a five and four per cent increase with respect to those achieved in 2012.

Paul Eckersley, Headteacher said,

“I am delighted to report that, once again, it’s been another record breaking year for the school. To achieve the highest results in the school’s history in what has been another turbulent year for GCSE grades across the country is both a fabulous and spectacular achievement.

This year’s results also showed an overall pass rate of 99.57 per cent with 82%, 76% and 82% of students respectively passed the core subjects of mathematics, English and science with a minimum of a grade ‘C’. It has also to be remembered, that these results have been achieved with a cohort of 233 students; dealing with large numbers of students to effect this level of success requires special qualities.

I would like to pass on my congratulations to all of our students and wish each and every one of them all the very best in their future undertakings. Their results are a testimony to their hard work and dedication, together with that of my staff, whom I can’t speak too highly of and the support of parents, guardians and carers.”
