GCSE Spanish and French Master Classes at Selby College

Due to the success of the GCSE Spanish master classes last academic year, our MFL department has once again teamed up with Selby College to offer GCSE MFL master classes to our more able students. We have been lucky enough to be able to send 10 of our more able Spanish students and 5 of our more able French students to a series of master classes at Selby College in February and March. These have been organised and delivered by Kaitlin Sobieski and Heather Lister; both members of Selby College’s successful MFL department.

Our students have had a chance to use Selby College’s state of the art Language Lab to hone their reading and listening skills prior to the external examinations in May. They have worked on reading and listening strategies within various topics. They have also had a sneak preview of AS Level topics and have seen the facilities the college boasts.

Kaitlin Sobieski who ran all three Spanish sessions commented “I really enjoyed the sessions; your students are well prepared, knowledgeable for their level and happy to be challenged linguistically”.

Heather Lister who delivered the French sessions remarked that the students were a real credit to our school.

The students told Miss Harwood and the staff at the college they gained a lot from the sessions and feel more prepared for their exams.

Alex Hornostaj in 11D/FR1 commented “I would really recommend the master classes to anyone taking a language at GCSE”

The Spanish students from 11D/EP1 agreed that they had improved their exam techniques and strategies.

Miss Harwood and Miss Ashworth would like to thank Kaitlin and Heather for planning and delivering such valuable sessions. We hope to be able to offer the master classes in the next academic year.
