A group of our more able year 11 students have been working with Dr Hamilton Davies (Head of Division: English A Levels: York College) over the past month. We were lucky enough for Dr Davies to come and work with our students at Selby High School where he ran an A Level style creative writing workshop. Students loved the session and we used it as the starting point for weekly English workshops during lunchtimes. Students have been fine-tuning a piece of creative writing in preparation for our visit to York College this week. Here, students were able to attend an A Level seminar that provided them with the opportunity to begin to write a commentary on their own writing.
Students have worked incredibly hard and Dr Davies said the work they have produced has been to an A- level standard – he is very excited that such talent exists at Selby High School. Students really have been a credit to the school, displaying maturity, commitment and motivation to what has been a great enriching opportunity and chance for them to push the boundaries of even the highest standards they already reach.
Well done to all students involved.
