Can you speak the language of employers?

On Friday 5th December Miss Harwood, MFL teacher, attended an event at Leeds Beckett University’s Carnegie Stadium campus called “Can you speak the language of employers?”. This was a follow up event of a similar day she attended in April. The aim was to introduce second and final year language students from the university to alumni, collaborators and employers who use a foreign language in their everyday work. There were representatives from many industries students had never thought of accessing with their language skills. Miss Harwood met many students whose main languages were either Spanish, French or German but who also had a second and sometimes even third language ranging from Swedish to Arabic to Japanese!

Some of the university’s current students work as Language Ambassadors for the Yorkshire and Humber region’s Routes into Languages scheme and are due to visit Selby High School in January to deliver presentations and take part in a Q&A session with some year 8 MFL classes which will be based around the benefits of Modern Foreign Languages.
