British singer-songwriter Caleidra performs at Selby High School

17 year old British singer-songwriter Caleidra sent a song she wrote in her GCSE music class,'With You', to a number of Record companies and influential people in the music industry, including Bob Miller manager of Corinne Bailey Rae. This led to Caleidra recording the song and having it released by an independent label and distributed worldwide by Nova/Universal Music for which she was featured in the national press, on radio, in teen magazines, and on TV where she was spotted by top music producer, John McLaughlin (5 number ones and 20 top ten hits), John wanted to work with her and record her next record, subsequently this has led to a number of releases, concerts, further TV and radio appearances.

Caleidra is an example of the talent which lies within our school system and of how that talent can be spotted and guided if the right people take notice.

Caleidra visited Selby High School as part of a two-week UK schools tour. As well as performing live for the students thoughout the day, she worked with a Year 9 GCSE Media group, where she was interviewed by a number of keen budding magazine journalists who will write about her as part of their production coursework. Following this ‘press conference’, the singer kindly agreed to pose for photographs, which again may be used in their GCSE assignments.
