A real audience for SHS students

During Activities Week our students took part in a competitive session where they were tasked with creating a story for a younger audience with a bank of resources to help the children interact with the story. Some excellent pieces were written and we had to shortlist from an incredible selection - a difficult task for the English Department. We were able to put five teams forward to take their stories forward to a local primary school: Selby Abbey. On the penultimate day of our activities sessions the students delivered their sessions to Class 3; a fantastic audience for our students who overcame their nerves to deliver their stories and then worked in small groups with the seven and eight year olds for some of the afternoon. It was a wonderful experience and our Year 8 and Year 9 pupils were commended for their delivery, manners and excellent nature with the younger children. Well done!

Three of our local primaries are looking forward to us running this event with them in the next academic year, so watch this space as we embrace this link within our community.
